Nishikant Kamat Passes Away At 50: Hospital Releases Statement After The Drishyam Director Succumbs To Liver Cirrhosis At 1624 Hours
Drishyam director Nishikant Kamat breathed his last on Monday afternoon in Hyderabad’s AIG Hospital, after a battle with liver cirrhosis. The filmmaker was 50. Soon after his death, members from the film fraternity such as Ajay Devgn, Ritiesh Deshmukh, Soha Ali Khan, Anubhav Sinha, Madhur Bhandarkar took to their social media to express their grief and offered their condolences to Nishikant Kamat’s family. Now, Hyderabad’s AIG Hospital has released a statement, which mentions that the director’s condition deteriorated, and eventually led to multiple organ failure.

The press statement on Nishikant Kamat released by the hospital read, "Mr. Nishikant Kamat (50 years, Male) was admitted to AIG Hospitals on 31st July 2020 with complains of fever and excessive fatigue. It was diagnosed that he was suffering from Liver Cirrhosis for the past two years. Initially, we started antibiotics and supportive medications upon which Mr. Kamat showed improvement, but his condition soon deteriorated with progressive liver dysfunction and drowsiness. He was immediately shifted to the ICU, where his general condition gradually declined.”

The statement further read, “Since yesterday, he developed respiratory failure and hypotension. Despite maximum efforts from Hepatologists, Gastroenterologists, Pulmonologists and Intensivists, his condition deteriorated eventually leading to multiple organ failure. Today, from afternoon onwards his vital parameters started declining and at 1624 hrs he succumbed to his illness. Our condolences are with his family, friends and fans.”


Over the years, Nishikant Kamat directed several films such as Force, Drishyam, Rocky Handsome and Madaari. He was reportedly working on his upcoming film Darbadar, which was scheduled to release in 2022.
